Edward Malachi Dyer - 1856 -1947 (Lord Mayor 1926)

 

 

 
Edward Dyer was born in Taunton in 1856 and moved to Bristol in 1878.  By 1881 he was a parner in the firm of tailors, Manning, Edwards & Dyer and became is sole principal by 1884.  He was elected to the City Council in 1902 and served on the Port Authority becoming its chairman in 1924.  He was made an Alderman in 1924 and served as Lord Mayor in 1926.  He was particularly interested in gardening and greenhouse cultivation and was president of the Bristol Amateur Horticultural Association 1897/98.  He died at 11 Tyne Road, Bishopston at the age of 90 on 9th June 1947.
