Sholto Vere Hare - 1820 - 1900 (Mayor 1862)

 

 

 

 Sholto Vere Hare was a senior partner in the firm of John Hare & Co. Ltd. (see also C.B Hare), for a long time he lived in Clifton, then moved to 'Knowle Park' in Almondsbury and eventually to Alva House, Litfield Place, Clifton.  When he was Mayor of Bristol in 1862, he gave  a fancy dress ball at the Merchants Hall which was described in the newspapers as "The hare with many friends".  He was also president of the Dolphin Society in 1871.  When he diedm Sholto Hare was buried in the family plot at Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol.
