Charles Wills was born on 1st March 1838 at Burn Farm, Denbury, Newton Abbot in Devon. He came to Bristol in 1859 and associated himself with civic affairs becoming a city councillor in 1883. He was a wholesale clothing manufacturer. In the 1890's he was a prime mover in getting the Avonmouth Docks developed to accommodate the larges ships afloat. He served as Sheriff in 1898 and died on 17th April 1921.
